New tools and view!

New tools and view!  Trail clearing is an on going effort and happens daily.  If you could help, just get in touch.
We did a little work last week, to put the vista back into Vista Trail.

Plus another benefit will be, these large limbs won't come down on the trail under snow load.

Thanks to a KCF grant - we've got another trail tool!

The new Echo adds to our current armory of trail clearing tools.

Did you know? KNSC purchased the new Kodiak ATV with help from
a grant from the U.P. Sustainable Forest & Wildlife Fund,
which is held at theCommunity Foundation of theU.P. Shown here is
KNSC Secretary, Sandy Aronson and UPSF&WF representative, Karin Van Dyke.
We really appreciate this support!
And a new machine to tow snow impolwnts with.
This is our ongoing effort to keep machines up to date.

Heading towards Mud lake on trail 4. Report #13

We made real progress towards Mud Lake today.
This is very near the cemetery, looking back at what was cleared.
Seen here is the little opening our trail crosses at the open edge at the cemetery.
What trail are we on now?  :-)
Thanks to John's mowing previously, finishing up here was a snap.
Shadows are getting long and we are about to head home.
This is the three way intersection at the start of the Mud Lake loop and as far as we got today.

Vista done! Heading west on trail 4. Report #12.

After Vista was done, we  headed west on trail 4 towards Mud Lake a ways.
This is Vista just as we got done.
Eric thought the overlook above the Sidewinder trail
should have more visibility so we cleared it.  Hope you get out there and check it out.
Further west on trail 4, seen here is the reopening
of the old "outback" trail. This is Colin running the pole saw,
and Eric is in the distance with the weed whacker.

Contact us if you can lend a hand
with this trail re-opening project.
Or any where else on the system you'd like
to work on to get ready for our favorite time of the year...winter!

Fall trail work report #11. More gorge cleared.

Today more of the gorge was cleared between the pedestrian bridge and the Dam meadow.

With the rain we got last night, the creek was up!  Nearly double the flow it had yesterday.

We are clearing our way downstream, from the pedestrian bridge.

Lunch!

This is how limbs are taken out of the creek.

No problem for Dusty the Defender.
Arly taking small trees out.

This section is now cleared.  It doesn't get any prettier than this.
Wouldn't you like to spend time in this gorgeous fall setting?
Just get in touch!

Weekend Mowing

This weekend the pre-season trail mowing almost got completed.  Some finishing passes need to be made on the tower loop, the top of Spring Creek and trail #8.  But we are almost there as far as mowing goes at Maasto and Churning Rapids.  This should really enhance mountain biking.  Enjoyed seeing many hikers and bikers out the trail Sunday.

Weekend trail work, mowing and hikes report #10

Trail photos from a beautiful Saturday afternoon hike and Sunday's trail work will be featured here.  Do note, not every day the trail is cleared, will it be posted.
This is corduroy that was added this past week near the pedestrian bridge down in the gorge.
What about those fall colors!?

On Saturday, we hiked around the new River Trail extension and noted
that the beavers have moved down stream and built new dams.

A beaver slide, as seen from the trail.

Their handy work
More of it along our trail. Guess they are in the fall trail clearing spirit.
Now on Trail 8, we saw that John had started to mow it.

On Sunday morning, Carolyn and Sandy knocked down the
weeds while Arlyn trimmed with the pole saw.

The corridor was opened up again.

Martin came by later in the morning and helped too.

Bridget came by for trail inspection while Gromit watched for squirrels.

The Dam meadow is officially done!
OK there is some bridge work here that remains.

Hope you get out to enjoy the better views of the creek.
