Fall trail clearing kicks off.

With free time while waiting on parts for the new storage shed, we decided to start clearing trails.
This tree had broke off.  This is at the three way
intersection of the Pine loop and Trail 2. (intersection #5)

Dusty the Defender drags it off.

And into the woods we go.

All better.  The Pine loop decent was also cleared.

BIG thanks to Laura N. for her help.
Watch for upcoming fall work bees. Come on out and help get the trails ready for the best season: winter!

Mud Lake loop reboot

A few years ago, the trail on the west side of Mud Lake (trail #4) was logged out.  This is sometimes called the Australia loop but most came to calling it the Mud Lake loop.  We are delighted to announce that we'll try reopening it this fall.   And more good news, we'll improve its ski-ability and keep it closer to the shore of the pretty little lake.  It will take many, many hours of hard work but we'll do our best to get it reopened.
We head out on the old trail.

Sorry for the poor photos, it will actually look and
ski nicer than this.  We went out and flagged the new route.

Lots of slash was left right on the trail.

Good news about slash piles is, they are the
 best chipmunk hunting spots around.

Progress repor

A little progress report on the new storage shed.
The city has been helping LOTS with this project.
Please give them credit. This wouldn't have got done without them

We tried skidding this with my truck.
That was a NO go.

Items removed for the move, are now going back in the old shed.
You can see some trees were removed to make room.
It doesn't look like much but lots of work was done.
On Wednesday the pad for the new shed will be laid.

Building pad done!

Stumps and rocks were pulled out thanks to Rob and the DPW who helped today.
Stumps and rocks galore, now gone.

Next the sand and gravel were dumped, followed by a good packing.

All done!   This would have taken me and Kaelan all week to do.

On Monday the old shed will be skidded to its new pad. Stay tuned for updates!

New storage shed, site cleared.

On Monday, some trees were removed to prepare a new site for the old storage shed.   It will be skidded here after stumps are pulled out, then gravel dumped and leveled out here.
The Defender shows its power.

The new storage building is needed for ongoing
improvements to trails and equipment care.

New storage shed!

This week, Arlyn will begin on the construction of a new storage shed at the Tomasi trail head.  Why you ask, do we need another shed there?  We've been leaving all our grooming implements outside over the summer which has been has been quite hard on them.   Getting them inside will keep the sun and rain off of them and help them last longer, not to mention keep them secure from vandals.   Would you care to help even one day?    Contact Arlyn at arlyn.aronson@gmail.com or 370-2911.   Your help would be much much appreciated.
This is the one we built some 7 years ago.
It will be dragged to a new pad, very near by.

This one is too small, yet it turned out to be one
of the best investments KNSC ever made.

Can you help with the new one?
It will be larger and taller than the old shed.
