New tow sled purchased!

After years of mechanical grief, a new work sled was finally purchased to replace the old one.
A 2016, SWT Skandic 900Ace was picked up this week.  Next, it will go into the shop for wiring, lights and a hitch to be installed.
This Skandic, has more HP and a much larger track than the old one had.
With all that power, it should be able to tow all our implements.

Ya, this one is trail mutt approved.  As is keeping the trails in top shape.

More reflecting of old Mud Lake trail

More markings got done on the old Mud Lake trail.
Reflectors were added so groomers can make their way through snow and wind at night.

The view of Mud Lake. Could it be a more gorgeous day to be out on the trail??

The rock warning that was busted off by log skidders is back.
BIG thanks to Siena for helping.

More stumps got removed as well.

Make A Difference Day was today.

Make A Difference Day happened on the Maasto trails today. A hearty crew headed down into the gorge to do some much needed fall maintenance.
The crew gathered at Tomasi Trailhead on Saturday morning.
In Swedetown gorge, a ditch was cleaned out to help keep water
off the ski trail.

A water-bar was revamped to keep water from flowing down the trail and
creating erosion.

Big logs were a only small problem for this crew.

A crew weed whacked their way up Side-Winder trail.
These guys are the best!

Today, 21 MTU students each donated KNSC 4 hours of their free time on a beautiful fall morning. Six of the KNSC board, and the head groomer, supervised and assisted. This amounts to 116 hours dedicated to getting the trails ready for winter fun. Can you join us next weekend? We'd really appreciate your help!

New shed news II

Our new shed is coming along, slowly but surely.  Thanks to all who's came out and assisted some.
It's starting to take shape and look like a skiers skid shed :-).

With any luck, we'll get it covered before the snow flies!

Mud Lake revisited...

More of the old Mud Lake trail was cleared today.  After the rain ended.
Today we worked on the north side. Here stumps are being taken out.

Stumps galore.
And a few small ones were pulled out.

The trail is open now.  More stump trimming and reflectors put up, will finish this important job.

Major Mud lake work done today

With the help of Cory and Yogi, we got another K of trail cleared today.
This is right along Mud Lake.

Now on the last ascent up and away from the lake.
Yes it's weedy.
On the way up, we take a break.

Now at the top.

BIG thanks to Yogi and Cory for helping today.
More stumps were also pulled out today.
Looking down the ascent and you can faintly see the Lake.
This is were we stopped.  What was cleared from the other side, is about 500ft away.
We will be out to here again on Tuesday, October 18th. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! With enough help, this project could be completed in one more work day.

This is Mark cutting slash along the lake shore.

Trail supervisor Gromit approves the work.

Stumps being pulled out via Dusty the Defender.

Look at those colors!

Yes it's some work, but reopening this trail is well worth it.

This was a great day to be out.

More stump action.
Soup's on!

We'll pick up where we left off here tomorrow, starting at 9. Please join us.  We'll make this trail the best ever!

Skid shed, going up.

With some help, we finally made some progress getting the new skid shed up.
This is to store implements in over the summer months.
First building frame being assembled.
Sorry, got no photo of Ed, who helped with this most of the day.
Next time!

Mike M. came by and helped hoist the frame up.
Thanks to Mike & Cocoa for the help!
We'll get your photo next time too.

This building will be slightly taller,
wider and longer than the old green shed is.

Looks like something!
If you can help even for just a few hours, do get in touch.
Inquire at 370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com  Thanks!

More Mud Lake loop done, to overlook

Three of us got back to reopening the Mud Lake loop (the west-most part of trail 4 on the map).   Heading back to town, we got it done to overlook, above the canal.
This huge slash pile was left in the middle of the trail.

Some of it was moved away so the Defender UTV could drive
over it. You can see where the trail goes up the hill.

Some trimming made slash excavation a snap.

OK, can we make it over?

So far so good!

Made it!

Lots got done out here today.

BIG thanks to Mark R for coming out today.  You can join us on Sunday October 16th, as we continue on this important project.
Also note.  We are looking to hire someone to help with fall trail clearing, then grooming when snow starts. Inquire for complete details at 370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com  Thanks!

More Mud lake markings added.

On Thursday, more reflectors were added to help groomers make there way in the dark.
To be honest, to mark stumps as well.

Could it get any more pretty than this??

Hope we see you out with us!

We sure could use some help getting this trail reopened, please get in touch if you can.  We'll be out there again on Saturday morning.  370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com
