Draining a wet one.

Early Thursday morning, two of us were out to drain a water hole on the old river trail to Churning Rapids.  This is trail 8.    If you support these efforts, please make a donation to our capital campaign.  We also need help opening the new River Trail extension.
Here was a low spot that spring melt congregates at each year.

Lots of debris was blocking its flow out.

Now this is what we like to see!
Channels were cleared all the way to a rock pile on the uphill side. Oh ya!

In no time, the water was draining out and this will dry.
Not seen here was boards we later added so our UTV can cross.

More of the New Trail Cut!

Three of us were on the River Trail extension this morning and cleared another 400ft of it.
Yes this is work, but it's also fun.

Who needs yoga? Work on your flexibility on the trail!

Near Sandy, you can tell it's more open.
BIG thanks to Eric N. for coming out today.

We passed through a little field.       Hence the high mileage we got today.
But there's another open area close by we are heading to next.

The end.

A tired crew (and dog) head home.

If you care to help on Saturday, we could really use more hands for this worthy project.

The Tomasi Trail Head

It was a sunny 40 degrees as we set foot on the Tomasi Trailhead this morning. For little boys, the trail head itself is a treat; seeing the progress of the storage shed, inspecting the grooming equipment, finding our location on the big map, and anticipating a chance to chat with Mr. Arlyn.

There is a comfortable familiarity we have with this trail, and as we started our usual route towards Pine Loop before cutting down to the River Trail, a woodpecker greeted us, tapping away in the trees above.

The call of the creek rushing over its rocky bottom is an attractive lure, even to the littlest of boys. There were many rocks to discover, sticks to come upon, and even deer tracks to notice as we made our way to Swedetown Creek.
While little legs usually only make it down to the bridge and back hopefully soon we will get a chance to traverse the new River Trail extension. What a wonderful chance to explore new areas along the creek. Perhaps you can have a hand in extending and rerouting this beautiful trail as well?

Some upcoming work days are:Tuesday May 9th, at 9am and
Saturday, May 13th, at  9am
Meet at the Tomasi Trail Head and let Arlyn know you are coming (370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com)

River trail extension and reroute clearing start!

A hardy gang headed out at 9 this morning to extend the River Trail further upstream in the gorge.  This will make trail 4 upstream from Tomasi pit road a bit longer, ski better and more scenic.
Some of the tools for trail clearing.

And we start!

John had his big saw out.

We started at the re-route's upper end.

Yes, it is a tad brushy!

No match for Mr Saw.

Who needs the gym? Get your work out here!

BIG thanks to John D, Mark R, Ken R and and J Martin for coming out today

Oh, and Arly, Sandy, and Gromit too.
Very interesting wild life seen out here today.

Watch for announcements of the next work day, see you there!

We are tentatively planning to clear more of this trail on Saturday the 13th.  Can you join us?

Build update!

Building construction has been moving right along.
The front side and door is nearing completion.

Threshold and ramps need to be added next.

The BIG drag was hung to the wall.

This is our ongoing effort to keep implements in better condition.
Leaving them outside was very, very hard on them.
Please support these efforts and buy a pass.

River trail re-route help!

On Saturday morning we plan to begin the re-route of the River Trail to extend it further along the creek, plus get it out of a wet section.  So it will follow the beautiful Swedetown Creek longer, and will ski better. Many hands make light work - we need your help to get this done.  We will meet at the Tomasi TH at the green storage shed at 9am.   Please let us know if you can assist for even a partial day.
Wow! We found a few classic photos taken in 2008, when this trail was opened.

Can you help with this necessary improvement?

Let us if you can at 370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com
