More Mud Lake trail clearing.

Today we went to the north end of the old Mud Lake loop and clearing it heading back towards the cemetery.
This corridor is looking great!

Gromit approves.   This was cleared today.

Here you can see how well the grass and
weeds did with more sunlight after logging.

Lots of big honk'n weeds and popple shoots.

Nothing the whacker can't handle!

Hard to believe this used to be a gravelly surface.

We made it to here today.

Seen from the same location.
That old trail only needs a light touch-up.

Another great day on the trail.

It'll be better yet with a luxurious layer of snow!
We sure could use some help with this project.  If you'd like to see this trail reopened, please get in touch.  If the weather is good, we'll be out here again on Saturday the 8th.

Mud Lake trail clearing today.

Today we had a hardy crew who spent much of the day removing slash, weeds, shoots and stumps.  Not everyone who attended is seen here.

A good view of the mess that was cleared.
Looking back towards town, what was cleared today.
Tools of the trade.

This will give you an idea just how pretty it was out there today.
We hope to get out again this coming week to continue on this project. Please come and join us!

Reflecting on the day

Reflectors were put up today on the old Mud Lake trail.
The Defender's tail gate was used to get the reflectors up.
These are for groomers to help them see the trail at night.

Fall is here!!  The leaves are gold and red.

This is looking towards the lake and the cut over section.  How does it look?

We'll be doing more work to get this trail re-opened on Saturday, October 1st starting at 9 AM. Come and out and lend a hand.

Pine Loop pedestrian bridge finishing touches done!

Today the Pine Loop pedestrian bridge was "officially" completed.  For a bit of history...   We found this bridge got so narrow over the winter, skiers could hardly stay on it.  Then a few years ago we did have a few folks fall off and into the creek. This is not recommend in the winter!  So we rebuilt it a bit wider, higher out of the creek, with a railing, plus much stronger so as to stay up under snow loads.
The plaque acknowledges those who made the bridge possible.

Looks nice, don't you think? Especially with the fall colors.

No more winter time creek dips here!

Sugar Bush trail clearing.

Sandy, Arlyn and Gromit were hiking on the north shore of lake Superior this past week and while crossing a ski trail, spied fellows mowing it, so we stopped to chat with them.
Thier classic Ford tractor is being replaced with a 50hp, 4wd, New Holland
tractor for about 40K.  That does not include implements.

This is John Wolf, treasure for the Sugar Bush system located just north of Tofte MN.

And there Swisher mower.

On Saturday, October 1st at 9am we'll be reopening trails on the Mud lake loop we lost to logging some 2 years ago.  Would you like to help?  Contact Arlyn at 370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com

Mud lake reopening begins!

On Labor Day, a few of us got to knocking down the weeds to begin the reopening of the Mud Lake Loop.  To be fair, this past week the trees that impeded this section had been removed by Arlyn A. and Laura N.
We started at the Cemetery and worked our way towards the lake.

With a few trees gone, more light meant more grass to knock down.

This is as far as we got today.  This is where the old trail went up the bluff.
The new one will go right, following the edge of the Mud lake.

Looking back, it's now ready for snow!

Mowing into action

The ski trail corridor mowing has commenced, thanks to a major overhaul to the old DR.

It's been a good growing season.

The DR is sporting a new carburetor.
Looking good!

Your membership support and donations make this possible - thank you!
