Ravine now filled!!

OK,  With new pin in hand, I repaired Mark's blade and got the ravine filled with rock, gravel and whatever I could scratch from the hillside.   Not seen here is a diversion ditch cut to keep water from going down this again.  Will it work?

Crevice be gone!
Gee whiz this little 35hp tractor has been great to use.

Ravine filling day.

Will no bridge work happening today, we figured we may as well make good use of the tractor. So we went to work filling in a ravine at the next bridge upstream.   This was formerly called the National Guard bridge.   After years of erosion a crevice was made that was difficult, not to mention dangerous to groom early in the season, plus it was a early season challenge for skiing.

First the sites weeds were whacked back, then logs moved out of the way.

Then Arly went to scraping back a bump that was too tall.
This will moderate the hill skiers must descend.

Then rocks were found and dozed down

Most were scraped off the hill side.

Gromit inspects the work progress.

Here gravel and rock is being dumped in the cut.

Rocks being dumped, just where we needed them.

Late in the afternoon Mark's wonderful back blade he
loaned us experienced a mechanical.   To be continued.....

Bridge-n-trails update.

On Friday more rock and dirt was moved in at the middle bridge site.

When we moved the 1st beam down,
we discovered that we needed more maneuvering space.

This fill moderates the approach and creates the extra room.
Plus reduces the bump for skiers to climb.

We stop for a cool dip on our way out.

Today we headed out to the Mud Lake loop to plan it's clearing and reopening of this wonderful trail.

This trail is the one we'll clear.

It was used as a logging road last winter.

Seems we'll get it cleared with a reasonable amount of work.

This creek is the BEST!
Did you know? KNSC welcomes the whole family to these trails,
 including the 4-leggeds.

Bridge progress.

With a hardy crew much more work was done today.   This is to prepare for the next section to be brought in.  If you'd care to help, with just one person we could bring move gravel down on Friday.   With a tractor doing the loading, this is not all that hard of work.  Arlyn at 370-2911 or arlyn.aronson@gmail.com.
Mark has scheduled the next beam to be moved down on Friday the 11th.  Could you help that day?  We'll be loading the next beam at 7:30 am.

The city's pipe trailer was pulled out and moved back up to the chalet area.

Mark is lowering the beam.
Then it was moved outboard, to allow room for the next one.

Then Drew W and Ken R moved gravel in here.  Thanks Guys!

Sorry we couldn't sneak a photo of Ken today!

#1 BIG beam was moved down!

Yes that's right.   After years of planning, fund raising and plain hard work, the first bridge beam was finally moved into Swedetown creek gorge at 9 this morning.

A City of Hancock fellow lifted one and onto a trailer for us.  Thanks guys!

Another BIG thanks to Bill M. Glenn A. and
the city council for their help on this project.

First we fly down the trail we just cleared on Saturday.

I'm kidding about the speed.  Into the 1st corner we go.

Towards the sand pit we zoom.

Down Sisu hill we skid.  The Rhino was tied on as an anchor.
I thought Mark might go too fast, so applied the brakes :-).

At the bottom we switched to the shorter and more
maneuverable, compact tractor.

Yes is was a tad tight here!

Just about there!  BIG thanks to Kathy and Bella for coming out to help.

Next job is to cut heavy timbers into supports.

Done!  That's one manly, stout looking beam.   At this point we are not sure when the next one with be moved down.

Appliance pickup.

A crew was in the gorge this morning picking up appliances dumped there many years ago. This was along the River trail.

BIG thanks to Mark and Adam who cared enough to come out and hoist
 this garbage out.

Was Mark really picking them up having just got out of Ernie surgery?? :-)

It was a load!

Special announcement.

On Tuesday at 730 am at the fairgrounds, we are loading our 1st bridge beam and hopefully tow it down.   We could use more hands and eyes for the shuttle down.  Could you help?    arlyn.aronson@gmail.com  or 370-2911

Trail clearing began in earnest

A wonderful team of people spent Saturday morning widening out the corridor starting from the chalet gate to the T intersection at the gorge edge, then west to the sand pit.   This was to allow room to start bringing down the bridge beams this week.

Interesting artifacts were found.  Was a Chevy here?

Not pictured here was Gromit.
This section was done up nice and ready to go.
