Pour help needed.

Just a modest update with a few photos.   We have been working on this project every day but haven't posted daily since cleaning up a hole, fixing gates and organizing supplies, just isn't very news worthy.

A sump system was set up and tested.

Our gate into the gorge at Sisu hill was vandalized.
It was repaired and new a latch was added.
This part wasn't damaged but a better system was needed, just the same.

Mr. B was spotted crossing the RR grade at 4 this afternoon.
He's heading towards his favorite Pine loop!

Do note that next week we'll need a large crew to mix and pour concrete.  We'll do this Friday the 29th.

Can you help with the pour??

Today's progress in the pit.

We got plenty of work done, much more than you can see in these few photos.

With Mark's dainty digger, we pretty much got one abutment hole done.

Nonesuch shale was found.
This bedrock is what we'll anchor the abutment to.

Now pumps need to be set up so water can be removed
during the construction of the footer.

Not seen here are the 4 other people we had out doing various jobs, including Steve Wright from OHM who we wanted to see the rock we'd uncovered.
Thanks to Rich K, Ken R and Jay G who came out and helped today.

More dirt moved.

No weekends off for this crew.  :-)

Below is a few photos of what was accomplished this afternoon.

We do love Mark's Dainty digger.  It's a dandy!

If you would like to help with any part of this project, just get in touch.

Dirt moved!

After 4 years of work to replace the Middle Bridge, some "real" dirt was finally moved today.  Funny how long it takes to get a project like this off the ground. KNSC with the City of Hancock worked together to get bridge plans made up by OHM, get bids out, attain permits, and don't forget the money raising part. The "job before the job" has been a long one and now the work begins.  We could not have gotten this done without the City of Hancock's gracious help.

We even had to replace our old trailer with a larger,
heavier duty one for this huge project.

Now it's happening.

Mark Roberts was kind enough to bring his backhoe.

Ken wonders why it took so long.

Was quite the feeling to move some real dirt today :-).

Bridge construction update.

The middle bridge in Swedetown gorge is scheduled to be replaced this summer and work on this project has begun.  Today a group of people carried to the site a 42ft long pipe to mimic the bridge being moved down there.

Through the gate at the fairgrounds we go!

Across the sand pit.
The pipe was carried in to see if the hills and corners could be
negotiated by a 42ft long object.

Down Sisu hill we go.

Sisu bridge was indeed a tall bump to get over.

Almost there.

This is the middle bridge.

Today we staked out the new bridges footprint.

The new one being a bit longer will allow skiers a better approach.
Next week we plan to start digging.

At the DPW the new bridge gets inspected.

Ken wonders if we really can trailer these down there.

Spring trails and equipment updates!

We walked the gorge and city side trails late this afternoon basking in these summer like temps. :-)

Someone was seen strutting down Tomasi road this week.

This is our main roller which just came out of the Hancock HS metals
shop after receiving extensive repairs and updates.
Work like this goes on for many, many hours during the "off" season.

How trail #2, aka the snow fence trail looked today.

We did bridge inspections.

Heading down stream we stopped at this pedestrian bridge.
If we have the time and find the funding, we'll strengthen
this bridge,  make it wider and add a railing to it
making in more appropriate for winter use

The water was much higher earlier this week and
flooded around this bridge in Dam meadow.

The gate in the dam meadow was dug up
and closed to keep atv traffic out.

Next the gate on Sisu hill was shut.

It would be tough sleddin on Sisu hill today.

This needs to be taken down.  Could you help with that?

Skiable in some areas! Keep your bikes in the garage a while longer.

Groomer's dinner.

Many of the groomers in the Hancock/Houghton area gathered for dinner at the Michigan House to reminisce the season and wish Jeff and Ann goodbyes.  Sad to see them go but a good time was still had by all.
