Hiking in the Rain

Today was the kind of day you just want to curl up with a blanket, hot drink, and a good book. Today we read some classics; "Winnie the Pooh," "Blueberries for Sal," and "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel," to name a few. But the sound of the falling raindrops called to my boys and even on this cold and rainy day, a kind of cold and rain that cuts to the bone, the boys were begging, "Can we go to the woods, Mom?"

Decked out in rain boots, rain pants, rain coats, and our newly acquired "bug boxes" (a wonderful gift from a loving great-aunt) we embarked for the trail head at the Chalet in Hancock. Even on a day like today the trails are a paradise; puddles to jump in, earthworms in abundance to pick up and study, and plenty of rocks and trees to investigate.

Happy and hungry, wet and muddy, we made our way home for dinner; two little boys, excited to relate their adventures of their rainy day walk in the woods.
