Buttoning up the trails for summer and bridge inspections

Today we headed out today to lock all the trail gates up plus inspect the bridges, as we do each spring. It's been a nice slow melt which has been good. Plus, we did a "no-snow" check of the potential re-route of the New River Trail.
Swedetown Creek is rather low, for spring.

Under the dam meadow bridge,  high water has scoured the earth out from
under its supports.  This will need to be addressed sooner than later.
All of these bridges here will be needing lots of love in the next few years.

Got the flip-up ATV block up and locked in the Dam Meadow.

Can't find a better spot anywhere for lunch.
We did head up Sisu Hill to lock up that gate too.

Jim P. says - support the trails! They are worth it./

Never know where you could find a chipmunk.
Pileated woodpeckers have been eating here.

On the Mud lake trail #4, this poor old white pine is
becoming supper for the wood peckers.

Churning Rapids' west gate.

The trail between the gates was the wettest, by far, of the whole system.
Please let it dry out and firm up, before you bike on it.

The east gate.

This is the New River Trail re-route we showed you a few weeks ago.

We'll have lots of brush to clear, but no big trees. Can you help?

The beavers have!

They have been very, very busy.

Here's their dam.

Guess they bit off more than they could handle here.

If you get hot, Swedetown creek is the great place to cool off.

Soon enough, bikers can leave the boredom of the RR grade for the trails!
